Guest : Prof. Valerie Masson-Delmotte, coordinating lead author WG I chap. 5

Stockholm this past week played host to the deliberations between scientists and representatives of 110 governments that resulted in the Summary for Policymakers of the Working Group I section of the 5th IPCC assessment report.

Think Globally Radio had the opportunity to interview Prof. Valerie Masson-Delmotte, one of the coordinating lead authors of the new report that covers the physical science basis of climate change. On this week’s episode, Prof. Masson-Delotte, who also served as a lead author of the previous IPCC report, discusses the scientific content of the latest report. She also shares some fascinating insights into the negotiations this week in Stockholm where the final wording of the new WG I report was hammered out, word-by-word, by scientists and state representatives.

The new report is dedicated to the memory of Bert Bolin, a Swedish climate scientist who founded IPCC in 1988 and served as chairman until 1997. As an added bonus, this week’s episode also features a short interview with Prof. Kim Holmén, for whom Bert Bolin was a PhD. supervisor and mentor.
