Ecolabeling and the conservation of global fisheries
Guest : Minna Epps, Marine Stewardship Council February 5 2012
Despite the vastness of the Earths oceans, global fisheries are more fragile than previously thought. Ecolabeling of sustainably caught fish makes the consumer a key actor in encouraging sustainable fishing practices. The Marine Stewardship Council operates at the nexus of science, consumer behaviour, environmental advocacy and the fishing idustry in promoting sustainable fisheries around the world. A major report on the global results of MSC ecolabeling efforts has just been published. This Sunday, Minna Epps, head of the MSC in the Baltic Sea region, will join Think Globally Radio to discuss the new report, MSC methods and strategies for conserving global fisheries, and the situation in the Baltic Sea.
