Forty years of global environmental action
Guest : Ambassador Lars-Göran Engfeldt March 13 2011
Next year marks the 40th anniversary of the crucial Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, the first gathering to address environmental issues on a global scale. Similar events were held in Rio in 1992 and Johannesburg in 2002, and in 2012 the ‘Rio +20’ conference will seek solutions to an environmental crisis that has not subsided since first reaching the international political agenda in the early 1970s.
This Sunday, Think Globally Radio welcomes Ambassador Lars-Göran Engfeldt, one of the primary organizers of Stockholm 1972 and an active participant on behalf of Sweden in Rio and Johannesburg. Ambassador Engfeldt will share the observations and insights into global environmental politics that he has accumulated over a career that spans the entire environmental era going back to the 1960s. He will also offer perspectives on what types of new thinking it will take to pull civilization back from the ecological brink.
